Closed-loop bandwidth impact on MVSA for rotor broken bar diagnosis in IRFOC double squirrel cage induction motor drives

2013

This paper investigates the detectability of rotor broken bars in indirect rotor flux oriented control (IRFOC) for variable speed double cage induction motor drives, using vibration signature analysis techniques. The Impact of the closed loop control system cannot be neglected when the detection of rotor asymmetries in the machine is based on the signature analysis of electrical or mechanical variables. Therefore, the investigation of rotor fault components for different bandwidths of closed-loop regulators is necessary to evaluate its relevance in the above listed variables. This paper investigates the impact of the control system on relevance of the fault components computed from axial an…

Operational Indicators to Manage the Replacement of Electromechanical Equipment in Wastewater Treatment Facilities

2021

Optimal management is usually at the top of the concerns in the context of water infrastructures. In the specific domain of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), European Directive 91/271 established the need of implementing a biological treatment of wastewater leading to an intensive construction of WWTPs in several European countries, which now present important problems of maintenance. These facilities are composed of different types of assets, which should be managed efficiently in order to optimize the performance of the processes as well as the maintenance and replacement costs of the equipment. In fact, the deterioration of these assets increases the operational risk and endangers th…

Towards farm-level health management of offshore wind farms for maintenance improvements

2015

This paper studies a conceptual architecture for health management of offshore wind farms. To this aim, various necessary enablers of a health management sys- tem are presented to improve reliability and availability while optimizing maintenance costs. The main focus lies on improving existing condition monitoring systems based on concepts of condition-based maintenance and relia- bility centered maintenance. A brief review of the rel- evant state-of-the-art is presented and gaps to be filled towards realization of such health management system are discussed.

Toward farm-level health management of wind turbine systems: status and scope for improvements

2018

An outline of health management for OWFs has been detailed in this chapter with description of various important elements. The need for such farm level management is explained and benefits are discussed. Key gaps to be filled in order to realize such a system are identified. The proposed health management system is mainly based on the existing knowledge of fleet-level management in the aerospace sector. Health management is much broader than CM; there are a number of aspects beyond the prognostics capabilities that are to be designed in order to arrive at a comprehensive maintenance management scheme. A comprehensive maintenance program that is sensitive to the health of the assets and adap…

Accelerated bearing life-Time test rig development for low speed data acquisition

2017

Condition monitoring plays an important role in rotating machinery to ensure reliability of the equipment, and to detect fault conditions at an early stage. Although health monitoring methodologies have been thoroughly developed for rotating machinery, low-speed conditions often pose a challenge due to the low signal-to-noise ratio. To this aim, sophisticated algorithms that reduce noise and highlight the bearing faults are necessary to accurately diagnose machines undergoing this condition. In the development phase, sensor data from a healthy and damaged bearing rotating at low-speed is required to verify the performance of such algorithms. A test rig for performing accelerated life-time t…

Continuous Monitoring of Parasitic Elements in Boost Converter Circuit

2021

The given paper explains the necessity of condition monitoring for DC/DC boost converter circuit. Further, an analytical model of circuit parasitic estimation is presented based on measured quantities in the circuit. The implementation of continuous estimation of circuit parasitic elements is analytically explained and verified by simulations and experimental results. Obtained results are acceptable for condition monitoring.

Methods of Condition Monitoring and Fault Detection for Electrical Machines

2021

Nowadays, electrical machines and drive systems are playing an essential role in different applications. Eventually, various failures occur in long-term continuous operation. Due to the increased influence of such devices on industry, industrial branches, as well as ordinary human life, condition monitoring and timely fault diagnostics have gained a reasonable importance. In this review article, there are studied different diagnostic techniques that can be used for algorithms’ training and realization of predictive maintenance. Benefits and drawbacks of intelligent diagnostic techniques are highlighted. The most widespread faults of electrical machines are discussed as well as techniques fo…

Challenges of the "Global Understanding Environment" Based on Agent Mobility

2007

Among traditional users of Web resources, industry also has a growing set of smart industrial devices with embedded intelligence. Just as humans do, smart industrial devices need online services—for example, for condition monitoring, remote diagnostics, maintenance, and so on. In this chapter, we present one possible implementation framework for such Web services. Assume that such services should be Semantic-Web-enabled and form a service network based on internal and external agents’ platforms, which can host heterogeneous mobile agents and coordinate them to perform needed tasks. The concept of a “mobile-service component” assumes not only the exchange of queries and service responses but…

Cross-correlation of whitened vibration signals for low-speed bearing diagnostics

2019

Abstract Rolling-element bearings are crucial components in all rotating machinery, and their failure will initially degrade the machine performance, and later cause complete shutdown. The period between an initial crack and complete failure is short due to crack propagation. Therefore, early fault detection is important to avoid unexpected machine shutdown and to aid in maintenance scheduling. Bearing condition monitoring has been applied for several decades to detect incipient faults at an early stage. However, low-speed conditions pose a challenge for bearing fault diagnosis due to low fault impact energy. To reliably detect bearing faults at an early stage, a new method termed Whitened …
